More than a year after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Philippines, World Vision, a child-focused humanitarian organization, mounted the virtual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Summit in Cebu, participated by top business leaders from the region.
In May 2020, Cebu City officially recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country.
To help the country in its battle against this global health crisis, companies came up with CSR programs to support the most vulnerable children and communities during this challenging period. These initiatives aim to improve health facilities, support the frontliners, and provide food and financial assistance to affected communities.
CSR Summit in Cebu, which was hosted by World Vision ambassador Gelli Victor and streamed live on World Vision’s official Facebook page, highlighted the impactful works of the companies for the region and shared their experiences and learnings during the pandemic.
The event, the second leg of last year’s virtual CSR Summit, was participated by distinguished business leaders from Cebu, including Mr. Felix Taguiam of Cebu Chamber of Commerce, Inc., Ms. Cecile Alcantara of Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Mr. Aaron Que of Golden Prince Hotel & Suites, Ms. Riella Guioguio of Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., Mr. Walter Cang of Rotary Club of Cebu, and Ms. Trixie Suarez of Singapore School Cebu.
CSR Summit in Cebu centered on the different Corporate Social Responsibility programs implemented by the participating businesses, and their impact on the most vulnerable sectors of society during the pandemic. It also discussed the important role of the private sector and civil society in terms of fostering and creating partnerships to bring greater social impact to many communities in need.
“Corporate social responsibility programs impact our country’s development. As shared by our speakers during the World Vision CSR Summit in Cebu, working with communities allow them to offer strategic and relevant support to vulnerable families and children especially in this very difficult time”, shared Mr. Rommel Fuerte, World Vision National Director.
“With their help, we are hopeful that we can sustain uplifting the lives of millions of children. We do this by implementing programs on health and nutrition, education, child protection, livelihood, relief and emergency response, values and spiritual nurture.
